In our spatial installations, our work is usually very site-specific, reacting to and reflecting on the space. This is why the charm of the white paper museum turned out to be the cardboard construction with its open lid – not a matte light ceiling, but an open-air ceiling: straight into infinity. And still, the focus on the space, on the white walls with the camera opening maintained. What is missing is the object to focus on. The open air above promises the possibility of an intrusion of reality into this finely tuned hermetic space of the white cube, still presenting its function of a neutral exhibition space. A cloudburst. So we were confronted with questions of inside versus outside, which we are also interested in in the context of our work in public space. And also broad parameters regarding the quality of works of art that are staged here as though on the scene of an abstract puppet theater: changes of scale, choice of materials, possible or even necessary levels of banality or alienation, and not least important references from the history of art that need to be achieved in the ideal work of art. Of course, it might also be called a piece on the aesthetics of seed cake readymades, carved carrots, mounds of shredded wheat, sunflower seed spreads or herring in aspic, which allegedly can be attached to a shark in formaldehyde. In the end, we are left with the question: What is the meaning of art for the human being? And where do all the hungry pets come from?
